Layering chains without a tangled mess

Lengths, weights and the one rule that stops two chains from knotting.

Two chains of the same weight tangle. Two of different weights mostly do not.

The lengths that work

  • 36 cm choker + 45 cm pendant: 9 cm of separation, no overlap.
  • 40 + 45: too close, they cross constantly.
  • 45 + 50: fine if the pendants are different sizes.

Weights

Pair a 1 mm cable with a 2 mm curb. The heavier chain sits lower and stays there; the fine one moves above it.

Pendants

One pendant per layer, maximum. Two pendants on one chain will find each other within an hour.

Storage

Hang them separately or lay them flat in a divided box. A pile in a drawer is why most chains arrive knotted.

If they still tangle

Add a small clasp between the two chains at the back, or wear them at clearly different lengths. We will adjust lengths free in the first month.
