Ring sizing without a plastic sizer

Measure a ring you already own, or use a strip of paper. Both work better than guessing.

A plastic sizer posted to you takes four days. Measuring a ring you already own takes two minutes.

Method one: measure an existing ring

  1. Take a ring that fits the finger you want.
  2. Measure the inside diameter in millimetres with a ruler, across the widest point.
  3. Compare: 15.3 mm = 48, 16.1 = 50, 16.9 = 52, 17.7 = 54, 18.5 = 56, 19.4 = 58, 20.2 = 60, 21.0 = 62.

Method two: paper strip

Wrap a 5 mm strip of paper around the finger, snug but able to slide over the knuckle, mark the overlap and measure the length. Divide by 3.14 to get the diameter. Measure at the end of the day, not in the morning.

What changes the answer

  • Knuckles: if the knuckle is wider than the base, size for the knuckle and expect a loose fit at the base.
  • Wide bands: a 6 mm band needs half a size up.
  • Heat: fingers swell in summer and after salt. Measure at room temperature.

Resizing

Most of our bands can go up or down one size. Signets with engraving cannot go down without losing the mark - tell us before ordering and we will start from the right size.
