Resetting a stone that belonged to someone else

What to send, what it costs, and when the honest answer is to leave it alone.

A reset is usually cheaper than a new piece, and it keeps the part that has meaning.

What to send

  • Photos of the stone in daylight, front and side.
  • The stone's approximate measurements if you have them.
  • What you want: ring, pendant, earrings, and the metal.

What it costs

From €120 for a simple bezel pendant in silver, €260 in gold-fill, plus the setting work if the stone needs re-cutting. A full quote comes after we see it.

When we say no

Fractured stones, very soft stones (opal, emerald) for daily rings, and anything where the original setting is stronger than what we would replace it with. We would rather explain than take the money.

Timeline

Three to five weeks, including one round of photos before setting. You approve the design before any metal is cut.
